You’ve probably come here because you’re looking for insights, tools, and guidance to build your business, and you want to know something about who I am.
My dad was a serial blue-collar entrepreneur who stressed the value of hard work and a good education.
I pursued all the traditional approaches to getting an education from a highly technical field in the US Navy to College and Business School.
I also pursued education through new traditional approaches such as online seminars and books on topics that aren’t taught in the classroom.
I typically get asked into companies because they’re looking to implement something new, make a growth-minded change, or streamline their business.
I’ve worked in manufacturing, distribution, engineering consulting, and professional services.
In 2004 I became the CEO of an engineering consulting firm and we appeared in the Inc5000 from 2007 through 2009 before the company was sold.
My next business venture grew over 80% in 8 months before a variety of factors caused me to shut it down. I began thinking that other business leaders might benefit from what I had learned.
My follow-up effort delivered Top 5 profitability competing against 43 other business units in a global company.
Why I created this site
Through the years I’ve had a lot of people ask me for guidance, thoughts and ideas about building their companies. And I’ve consulted on the valuation and sales of businesses.
What makes me the happiest (professionally) is spending time with smart, motivated business leaders and entrepreneurs who are building something and contributing through their businesses.
I really, truly enjoy helping businesses excel, and leading one business at a time wasn’t satisfying enough for me.
So I created this site as a way to share my insight, methods, tools, and techniques to help others become more successful in business, and to do so in a way that allows them to have a healthy work/life balance.

I don’t publish a new post every other day, so I’m not going to invade your inbox. In fact, I publish about once every 4 to 6 weeks.
I publish this way because you and I both know that the challenges in your business can’t be solved in a single 300 word post. It takes real thought and significant action. So when I publish it’s important, actionable, and complete.
My goal is to start a new conversation with a new subscriber every day. So when I say I may just choose your email to start into a conversation, it’s true. Integrity is one of my core values.
